 Echinacea Extract is derived form the herb of the same name. It mainly contains Cichoric acid, alkylamides and Echinacoside. People use it as an immune system booster to shorten the duration of the common cold and flu, and reduce symptoms, such as sore throat, cough, and fever. Echinacea purpurea, commonly known as purple coneflower, is a Native North American medicinal plant in the Asteraceae family. It is named for the prickly scales in its large conical seed head, which resembles the spines of an angry hedgehog (echinos is Greek for hedgehog). The perennial herb has narrow leaves and stout stems that grow from 90 cm to 1.2 m in height that blossom as a single lavender or purple flower head. Echinacea is said to have a fiery and pungent taste. The root and the above-ground part of the plant during the flowering growth phase are used in herbal medicine.

It has been used by American Indians for more than 400 years to alleviate pain and promote the healing of snake bites, burns, cough, sore throats, and toothache, and as a general "cure-all".
